A FAMILY BUSINESS
Jerry Berghorst & Joyce Ver Lee are the son and daughter of Fred and Minnie.
In this video, they reflect on the company’s origins.
Fred Berghorst learned the importance of keeping deadlines and commitments while a city bus driver in Grand Rapids, Michigan. With an eye for entrepreneurship, Fred saw a need to supply the local grocery stores of West Michigan with fresh chickens at a moment’s notice. He and his wife, Minnie, started Berghorst Poultry deeply dedicated to delivering quality poultry at a great price. Their legacy was carried on by their daughter Joyce and son-in-law Roger Ver Lee. Today, Berghorst Food Service (BFS) has a diverse product line and a passion for our customers to experience that same dedication to excellent customer service.
The dedicated personnel at Berghorst Food Service today includes management team Keith and Robyn Littlepage, and Scott and Roshelle Rawlings who continue the excellent quality service that Fred and Minnie began.
Accuracy is Paramount and Dedication is the Norm.
Outside of the office, the Berghorst warehouse team recognizes that they are the last line of defense against errors. Their motto is “accuracy is more important than speed!” The delivery team also has a reputation for excellence; many team members have decades of experience at Berghorst (and know their customers’ orders by heart).
The Berghorst Food Service team will always be dedicated to delivering a quality product at great prices.

Keith Littlepage
Chief Operating Officer
In my years at Berghorst, I have worked in all the departments of our business. I have worked in shipping and receiving, I was a driver, (But not a good one.) In Receivables as Credit Manager, in sales, as a Purchaser and now as the COO since the mid 90’s I work with Robyn my wife here and she never needs to ask, “How my day went?”
I can confidently say that we have the best team in place that we have ever had. Robyn and I love spending time with our grandchildren and I rehab “flip” houses in my off hours.
ROBYN LITTLEPAGE
Office Manager, Receivables and Payables
I began working for Berghorst Poultry when I was 5. My parents had a poultry processing plant behind our house in Allendale. When the chickens would escape their pens, I was paid 25 cents for the ones I caught. I had a pole with a hook on the end and when they would roost on the fence, I would hook their legs. So, I know almost everything there is to know about Berghorst. I am very proud of the company my grandparents started and my parents own. And we strive to do our best to provide our customers quality products at a competitive price.
SCOTT RAWLINGS
Chief Financial Officer
We have enjoyed working in the food industry for many years. Roschelle, my wife has been a part of the business her whole life. BFS is owned by her parents and started by her grandparents Fred and Minne Berghorst in the 1940’s
Over the years we have developed a reputation for first class products and first class customers. We have talented people throughout the organization and we are ready to help you meet your goals for your organization.
I enjoy all the main sports including football, basketball, baseball and golf in my spare time as a spectator or participant. I also enjoy reading with any time I have left.

I have been working for Berghorst Food Service for 25 years. Business with integrity is my number one priority. I strive to earn my customer’s trust by thinking outside the box to develop solutions in challenging situations. My husband, who is a firefighter and I enjoy spending time with our family – watching my children play sports and playing with them at the lake.

I have worked for Berghorst for 33 years selling food. Mutual respect was developed throughout the years with customers and employees. The job was always challenging because prices are changing continuously and needed to keep enough fresh product in on a daily basis to supply our customer’s needs. During my free time I enjoy playing golf and pickleball.

I have been in the food industry for almost 35 years. I love the food business. I am having the most fun now working with my customers of Berghorst Food Service. It is family owned, family focused company that cares as much about the customers as they do about their own employees. When away from work I enjoy spending time with family and am an avid sports fan, playing and watching.
SCOTT JEWETT
Master Butcher
I enjoy my job at Berghorst Farms. It is my team’s responsibility to process all the steaks, ground beef and pork for our customers. I also buy the meat for processing which gives me quality control over the product we source in for our customers.
I enjoy spending time with my wife and family. I am active in my local church and enjoy my church family. I have a beef farm raising cattle. In my spare time, I am active in hunting and fishing.

Working at BFS for about 30 years now, I must say it has certainly been a pleasant experience. I have had many opportunities to develop many friendships, with many employees, customers and vendors over the years that I am truly grateful for. Outside of camping, boating, and hanging with grandkids, I truly can’t say there are many places I would rather be. Working there now half my life has been very rewarding.

Warehouse Supervisor
I am directly involved in all areas concerning the Warehouse. I am responsible for the work flow of Shipping and Receiving crew, order selecting, loading trucks, daily inventory management and dispatching of invoices. In my free time, I enjoy traveling, swimming and practicing on the gun range. I’m grateful to be part of such an amazing team.

I love the family-oriented atmosphere working for Berghorst Food Service. For me, when I come to work, I know that if I have a problem or question, they help with finding solutions or answers. Even the outside vendors appreciate delivering here because they receive the same open arms. I am a very family oriented person outside of work and greatly appreciate that even when I leave home for work, it’s like coming right back home when I get here.
